A Censored Sunlight (1997-)

History has proven that nobody really knows the essential mix of factors that make a well-rounded musician and performer. In the case of fourteen year old Nickolas Malone, founder of musical project A Censored Sunlight, a clean and simplistic genre-blender that has been self-described as "music for the amateur surrealist" at one moment, and "some passive aggressive music for a coffee house revival rally" the next, the mix is quite possibly the most obscure combination of influences. Living out his first moments through the theatrical Boy's Town area of Chicago, but listening to a profound mixture of Nine Inch Nails and underground rap, Malone took to songwriting at only age ten- in 2011, Malone's first concept album began production and the first singles received nearly universally positive critical and audience acclaim. Although born to an accountant and beauty school dropout, Sunlight found his love for divine poetry through ancestry- his father and grandfather are published poets. both with vague but intriguing concepts and mesmerizing simplicity.

Armed with neon shades, boat shoes, ironic t-shirts, and a dead stare sharp enough to engrave his name into music history, A Censored Sunlight (at first glance) could seem like just another watered-down emopop act. But Malone's goals are the exact opposite- the goal of A Censored Sunlight is to break the teen songwriter's stereotype.

Taking after the unconventional likes of Florence Welch, Bat for Lashes, and Bjork, Malone wields simplistic but anthemic lyricism and composition. A lyricist, multi-instrumentalist, and surrealist, a concept was born after years of writing and perfecting. The pseudonym A Censored Sunlight serves as something of a forbidden territory that begs to be explored. Being a teenager trying to develop adult contemporary music. After developing interest in Dante's Divine Comedy, as well as the art of the commercial pop song, his first album, Bloodlines was born- a diverse and elusive musical grey area.

After working with numerous other young musicians, and eventually giving up on "molding so many egos just to make a potentially poor mutual record," Malone met Chicago musician Liz Berg, who after hearing some of the demos for Bloodlines, decided to work to perfect Malone's work in production and delivery right away. His debut EP, Midnight Fission was received with warm local reception along with the self-produced mixtape entitled Paris in build-up to the full-length album. This debut album, Bloodlines: Core Elements was released on December 21, 2012 in reference to the Mayan apocalypse prediction. He embarked on a tour for the album, also in promotion for his upcoming records as Kata Bel Air and Blood Diamond Klan in early 2013.
